Engineering GDP

 

In the academic year 2014-15, the Faculty of Engineering and the Environment at the University of Southampton ran a Group Design Project (GDP) as part of the UoS3 project. GDPs involve undergraduate students who are in their Masters (fourth) year at University.  The Engineering GDP was tasked to start the development of the UoS3 spacecraft bus.  This includes designing:

 

  • Attitude control system
  • Power raising and distribution subsystem
  • Structural subsystem including any mechanisms
  • Telecommunications subsystem

 

In addition, the Engineering GDPs are responsible for defining the spacecraft operations, There are 10 members of the Engineering GDP:

The Faculty of Engineering and the Environment ran another GDP, on the final assembly, integration and testing of the UoS3 spacecraft. The following students were involved with this GDP, and with securing the flight opportunity from ESA:

The UoS3 project is undertaken with the support of the Education Office of the European Space Agency, under the educational Fly your Satellite! Programme; an ESA educational programme complementing academic education.
